Press Release

Standing Cloud Facilitates Privacy Law Compliance in the EuroCloud

Service will now be backed up and automatically restored in EU data centers

Standing Cloud, Inc. announced on Thursday that all applications and data installed in European Union (EU) data centers through its service will now be backed up and automatically restored in EU data centers.

Having previously announced support for both Tagadab and the Amazon EU data center, Standing Cloud has now added a process flow to its service such that, by default, data stored in the EU is not transmitted to systems in the United States. Many observers believe that the U.S. PATRIOT Act is in conflict with the requirements of both the EU Data Protection Directive and the UK's Data Protection Act. This concern can be exacerbated in cloud computing, where users cannot always control the location of the data.

“We are aware of the data privacy concerns of EU users related to the PATRIOT Act and are pleased to now offer a way to keep data on their side of the pond,” said Standing Cloud CEO David J. Jilk.

Customers of Standing Cloud enjoy its signature application management service, which provides easy installation and management of more than 80 open source applications using cloud technology. Features include 24x7 monitoring, backups, auto-recovery (to another server or another cloud entirely in the case of downtime), scaling.

Standing Cloud is the only platform-as-a-service (PaaS) that enables cloud users to deploy, manage, customize and/or develop applications on a variety of cloud services and with several programming languages. The service supports PHP, Java, Ruby on Rails, and Python, as well as 75+ complete open source applications that can be deployed by end users with a few clicks. Target customers include business users who want an easy way to automatically deploy and manage SaaS; developers who customize existing open source applications or develop their own from scratch; and IT professionals in search of a time-saving way to deploy applications and development environments for teams within their organization.
